We review when the craft markets are set up in Valencia and what you can find in each one.

Craft and local produce markets have become a regular feature in Valencia, both in the city center and in various neighborhoods. On weekends, holidays, and some weekday afternoons, squares and streets fill with stalls selling ceramics, handmade jewelry, textiles, pickles, honey, cheeses, and locally sourced products from the Valencian countryside.

When are the craft markets set up in Valencia?

Most operate as a regular street market, though not every day. The best-known, like the one in Plaza Redonda or the one in the Cabanyal neighborhood, usually have permanent stalls during the week and supplement their offerings with crafts on weekends. Other markets, more themed in nature, appear sporadically to coincide with local festivals, Christmas, or periods of good spring and summer weather, when they are set up in open-air squares for one or more consecutive weekends.

Weekend markets

Saturday and Sunday mornings are the peak times. This period typically sees the greatest variety of exhibitors, from artisans working with leather or wood to olive oil and wine producers from wineries near the city.

Seasonal markets

At Christmas, Valencia multiplies its markets with stalls selling decorations, nativity scenes and handcrafted gifts, while in spring and summer, markets selling fresh produce and local cuisine outdoors gain importance, often next to terraces and leisure areas.

What can you find in these markets?

The selection combines traditional crafts with more contemporary designs. Hand-painted ceramics, fans, jewelry made from recycled materials, handcrafted candles, basketry, and leather accessories are common items. On the food front, highlights include extra virgin olive oil, local honey, cured meats, cheeses from small dairies, and homemade pickles. Prices vary depending on the product and the artisan, with small pieces starting at just a few euros and more elaborate items costing over 20 or 30 euros.

Do I need to book or arrive at a specific time?

No reservations are necessary: these are open markets where you can come and go as you please. However, it's best to arrive early in the morning if you want to browse the entire selection at your leisure, as some stalls with fresh produce or limited-edition items sell out before noon.

Neighborhoods and squares where to find them

  • Plaza Redonda, right in the center, with permanent stalls and a very touristy atmosphere.
  • Cabanyal neighborhood, with local markets and local crafts.
  • Squares in the Ensanche and Ruzafa districts, where themed markets appear depending on the time of year.
  • Surroundings of the city's gardens and parks, chosen for seasonal open-air markets.

What to bring and how to plan your visit

We recommend bringing cash, as not all stalls have card readers, and comfortable shoes if you plan to explore several areas. A good option is to combine your visit to the market with a stroll through the neighborhood, taking the opportunity to eat or have a drink at nearby establishments. It's advisable to check the exact dates before going, as some themed markets are only open for a specific weekend each year.
